The Music of Jane Austen's World

Covent Garden London - 2nd Theatre
Completed in 1809

We have a great impromptu social event available to us. The Peach State Opera Company is performing The Marriage of Figaro on Sunday, September 16, starting at 3 pm, at Perimeter College in Clarkston (just east of 285).

We celebrate Jane Austen's genius, her works, and her times. She was a contemporary of both Mozart and Beethoven. Figaro was first performed in Vienna in 1786 when she was eleven years old. Its London premiere was in 1812. To celebrate the bicentennial of that performance several of our members will be wearing their Regency finery to the show.

There is a pre-concert talk beginning at 2 by Carter Joseph who does the popular 'Opera 101' for Emory Continuing Education and for the Atlanta Opera Company. We've asked that he describe the London opera scene during the Regency era in his remarks.

Tickets are normally $23, but our group rate is $10/person. Please RSVP to RB@JasnaAtlanta.org by noon, Wed, Sep 19th. Also, if you need a ride or would like to carpool with someone in your area, please include that in your reply.

Welcome to the Atlanta Region of JASNA!

Our members meet regularly throughout the year to enjoy lectures, attend events, and discuss the works, life, and times of Jane Austen (1775-1817). We meet on the weekends so that people living farther out from the city will be able to attend more easily. We hope you will join us! info@JasnaAtlanta.org.
