======================
The second half of our meeting was devoted to a discussion of the similarities between Jane Eyre and Mansfield Park. MP was published in 1814, JE in 1847. Charlotte Bronte was born in 1816, a year before Jane Austen died. Both stories begin with an orphan or near-orphan girl aged 10. The stories then jump to their later teen years when they are beginning to make their way in the world and are struggling with life issues.

Discussion of Jane Eyre vs. Mansfield Park
Member Helena makes a point.
(The room was still darkened for the slide show of AGM photos.)
The discussion was quite lively as Fanny Price is one Austen character who is somewhat controversial. And a comparison of Henry Crawford to Edmund Bertram reminds one of the comparison of Willoughby vs. Col. Brandon.
