World Famous Spivey Hall

Sunday, January 27, 2013

Admission:  free

The performance explored both the music that a Jane Austen character might have heard or played herself and music inspired by Jane Austen characters.  The latter included newly composed songs based on the texts of the novels such as:

Lady Catherine de Bourgh's speech about music
Mrs. Elton's effusions about Maple Grove
Marianne Dashwood's heartbreaking letters to Willoughby
Ann Elliot's speech which finally convinced Captain Wentworth that she still loved him

There was also a program about the music by CSU English professor and Jane Austen scholar, Dr. Kathryn Pratt-Russell.

About the performers:

Dr. Christina Howell, Assistant Professor of Voice

Ms. Catherine Giel, Manager of Education Programs, Spivey Hall

Dr. Kathryn Pratt-Russell, Associate Professor of English

Welcome to the Atlanta Region of JASNA!

Our members meet regularly throughout the year to enjoy lectures, attend events, and discuss the works, life, and times of Jane Austen (1775-1817). We meet on the weekends so that people living farther out from the city will be able to attend more easily. We hope you will join us! info@JasnaAtlanta.org.
