Jane Austen Tea Party

Saturday, December 15, 2012

2:00-4:00 PM

Dunwoody Library

 5339 Chamblee-Dunwoody Rd  30338

We'll have our annual tea party complete with a wide variety of teas with desserts.  Everyone who has Regency era clothes is invited to wear them for the occasion.  There will be a lot of guests at this event including the public, the Dunwoody Women's Club, the Georgia Regency Society, and others.  We will have a short slide show presentation, "Welcome to the Jane Austen Society," to show past and upcoming events.  And we will receive new insights into Jane Austen's world and literature with our featured program:

Program 2:30 - 3:00            Jane Austen and Christianity

Professor Laura Dabundo of Kennesaw State University will share insights from her recently published book, The Marriage of Faith:  Christianity in Jane Austen and William Wordsworth (Mercer University Press, 2012).

The works of Jane Austen have been possessed by an otherworldly, even superhuman dimension -- the divine. Critics have tried to sidestep how this daughter of the Church--child, grandchild, sister, and aunt of Anglican priests--could be separated from such a familial, cultural, social, national and indeed spiritual context. Rather, these matters, sometimes allusive, sometimes indirect, are ever present and sometimes conspicuous in all six Austen novels.

Welcome to the Atlanta Region of JASNA!

Our members meet regularly throughout the year to enjoy lectures, attend events, and discuss the works, life, and times of Jane Austen (1775-1817). We meet on the weekends so that people living farther out from the city will be able to attend more easily. We hope you will join us! info@JasnaAtlanta.org.
